Frequently
Asked Questions
1. How will I benefit from having my attic insulated?.
Having attic insulation installed is a particularly effective way
of cutting heating bills - as around 35% of heat can be lost through an attic
without insulation. Insulating your home is a quick and easy project that can
owe on energy bills and add greatly to the comfort of your home.
2. Is it expensive to have my attic insulated?.
The cost of having the work carried out is relatively low.
Approximately €480* for a standard 3-bed semi-detached, and €545* for a
4-bed semi-detached. (This price is for 200mm fibreglass)
3. Does your company conform to any standards?.
Yes. We are the only insulation contractors in Ireland who
currently hold ISO 9002 accredited. All fibreglass products fitted by Usher
Insulations are manufactured to ISO 260 1984.
4. Do you install cavity wall insulation?.
As over 95% of houses built in Dublin City and county are
constructed using the 215mm hollow block these walls cannot be insulated unless
they are dry lined using insulated plasterboard. In other parts of the country
the more traditional method of building is used and these can be retrofitted
with insulation.
5. How long does it take to insulate an attic?.
The attic must be cleared of all household materials, and then
the insulation takes approximately one hour for a standard 3 or 4 bed house.
6. If I decide to insulate my home, how soon can it be
done?.
Waiting time is normally two to three days. Appointment times are
between 10-00am & 2-00pm and 2-00pm & 4-00pm Monday to Friday.
7. Do you call out to give quotations?.
We normally quote you over the phone for a standard house but in
certain circumstances such as unusual materials required or an unusual attic
space etc. we will arrange for one of our representatives to call out.
8. Do I need to remove old insulation from my attic before the
new insulation is installed?.
There is no need to remove old insulation can be laid directly on
top of the old.

TYPICAL
HEAT LOSS IN THE HOME

We specialise in stopping
heat loss
-
Attic insulation: Up
to 30% of heat lost from a home is lost through the roof. Effective attic
insulation can pay for itself within two to three years.
-
Lagging jacket: A
lagging jacket on the hot water cylinder will keep water hotter for longer
and pay for itself within a few months.
-
Double glazing: For
a given area of wall or window, a window will allow up to eight times more
heat to escape.
-
Wall insulation: As
much as one quarter of the heat lost from a house can be lost through the
walls. Properly insulating walls can reduce this by two-thirds. Badly
fitting windows and external doors can account for more than one-sixth of
heat loss.
-
Ground floor insulation:
Heat loss to the ground depends on several factors, including floor type,
whether house is one or two-storey, nature of soil and terraced or
detached construction.
