Government Grants

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) conducts financial schemes designed to support energy technologies in the hope that such governmental initiatives will further Ireland's aims to become effective in its domestic energy strategies. In February 2009 the Minister for Energy announced a €100m home insulation grant package. €50m of this is allocated for private homeowners who wish to upgrade their homes. To be eligible for this grant the dwelling must be built before 2006. Funding is available in the following areas:

• Domestic Grants
• Commercial Grants

Having attic insulation installed is a particularly effective way of cutting heating bills - as around 40% of heat can be lost through an attic without insulation. Insulating your home is a quick and easy project that can save on energy bills and add greatly to the comfort of your home.

Who can avail of the scheme?

It is a national scheme and all homeowners of dwellings built before 2006 may apply. Landlords and owners of multiple properties may also apply, however they must submit a separate application form for each property. If you are a landlord or a management company considering an entire building upgrade, contact SEAI before applying online for the grant.

Homeowners who wish to avail of this grant must apply for a minimum of €400 worth of grant assistance. The individual grant contributions for each insulation application are shown in the table below.
